We are excited for this month’s very special feature of the “WDM Watch List.”
Tom is an experienced marketer successfully building relationships with sponsors and brand partners, creating social media and digital network content, generating revenue, and increasing attendance & viewership.
He has spent the last 3 and a half years as the Coordinator of Business Development with the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union, the only state activity association in the nation solely devoted to promoting, directing, and regulating interscholastic athletics for junior high and high school girls.
Since he began this role in 2017, he worked with IGHSAU’s new and existing corporate partnerships to generate 27% revenue growth. Tom also directed and managed the IGHSAU Digital Network including the hiring of production team and network talent, sales of in-broadcast advertisements, and writing of broadcast script. His work on the promotional strategy for IGHSAU’s Digital Network resulted in 750,000+ viewers annually.
Tom’s past roles include Assistant Director of Ticket Sales & Donor Management with Drake University’s Athletic Department. He has deep ties to Drake University from which he holds two degrees, a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration. He also serves on Drake’s National Alumni Board of Directors and is the Board President of their Central Iowa Regional Alumni Board of Directors.
In addition to his work with Drake, Tom also serves on the JDRF Greater Iowa Board of Directors and is a member of their One Walk Committee, which plans JDRF’s annual One Walk, a nationwide fundraising effort to help find a cure for Type One Diabetes. He also volunteers as the marketing manager for Dream Team Des Moines.
Now, Tom has transitioned to a new opportunity. The West Des Moines Chamber could not be more excited to announce Tom as the newest member of the team!
Tom officially started on Friday, April 30th. As Director of Membership & Growth, he will work in conjunction with Anna Doud, Director of Membership & Strategic Partnerships, to grow membership, sponsorships, and advertising.
Tom is definitely someone you’ll love getting to know—though you may already be acquainted as he has come to us with quite the circle of influence built over many years.
