In the vast landscape of American entrepreneurship, stories of individuals who rise above adversity, follow their dreams, and make a lasting impact are truly remarkable. Amner Martinez, a businessman from Des Moines, Iowa, embodies the essence of what many have had to go through. As the owner and operator of the thriving staffing company Infinite Resources, Martinez’s journey is a testament to the power of family, community, and seizing opportunities.
Martinez’s story begins with his departure from Guatemala at ten years old. His family brought him to Perry, Iowa, where they would work at a meat packing facility from sunup to sun down. This led Martinez to leave Iowa early in his career. Driven by a thirst for exploration and new horizons, he ventured far from his familiar surroundings and ended up in California. However, in 2001, the family bond and a deep-rooted love for his hometown ultimately called him back. It is through this homecoming that Martinez embarked on a transformative path that would shape both his personal and professional life.
One must acknowledge the vital role his family has played to fully grasp Martinez’s journey. Together, they established a staffing company in 2019 that has not only provided valuable job opportunities for the local community but also fostered an inclusive work environment. “Many other corporations have the saying “We are family,” well, here at Infinite Resources, we are family. With my family, we have brought on incredible staff and are trying to incorporate innovative resources for the community to use.” Â
By prioritizing diversity and creating a welcoming atmosphere, Martinez has built a team that reflects the vibrant tapestry of Des Moines. His commitment to empowering others, especially those from marginalized backgrounds, inspires entrepreneurs and community leaders alike.
Martinez’s impact extends far beyond the confines of his business. Recognizing the importance of giving back, he has actively invested his time and resources into community initiatives. Through partnerships with local organizations and charities, Martinez has spearheaded projects that promote education, career development, and social welfare. Martinez is involved with the non-profit Latino Art Initiative, the Latino Trade Network, a West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce member, and the founder of Amplified (a local podcaster platform highlighting culture, business, and community). By leveraging his success, he has become a catalyst for positive change, working tirelessly to uplift the community that has supported him throughout his journey.
No entrepreneurial journey is without its share of challenges, and Martinez’s story is no exception. Whether navigating the complexities of a competitive market or adapting to being a business owner of color in the heart of a changing Iowa, Martinez has displayed unwavering resilience. In 2013, Martinez was wrongfully detained by ICE due to a clerk’s error. This error would lead to Amner serving three months in intense immigration detention at the Polk County jail. Martinez and his family fought to get his name cleared, and by age 25 was able to earn his GED and began to build his company right out of his own home. Martinez’s ability to weather storms and emerge stronger is a testament to the tenacity and strategic mindset that growing business owners must have today. His determination serves as a shining example to aspiring entrepreneurs, proving that dreams can be turned into reality with perseverance and a strong support system.
Amner Martinez’s journey from leaving Iowa to returning and making a lasting impact serves as an inspiration not only to the Hispanic community but to all who strive for success against all odds. His dedication to his roots, unwavering commitment to his family, and sincere investment in the community are the pillars that have propelled him to the forefront of business leadership. Through his accomplishments, he has shattered stereotypes and showcased the immense potential within the diverse fabric of Iowa communities.
Amner Martinez’s journey in Des Moines is a testament to the power of perseverance, family, and community. By embracing his roots and capitalizing on the opportunities presented to him, he has not only built a successful staffing company but has also become an inspiration for others to follow their dreams. Martinez’s story reminds us that success is not solely measured by financial gain but also by the positive impact one can make on the lives of others. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come, shaping the landscape of entrepreneurship and community empowerment for years to come.
