Explore WDM is a committee of the WDM Chamber working to bring more visitors and economic development opportunities to our region through community festivals, concerts, athletics, and events.

  • MISSION: To attract and host community & cultural events that exploits our venue assets and adds to our quality of life, workforce & business attraction, and helps to serve as an economic driver for our area restaurants, retailers, and hotels.
  • GOAL: To increase perception that West Des Moines is the ‘most happening’ suburban city in America, help fill the entire Greater Des Moines region’s event gaps and see measurable differences in our area’s growth. 

Secretary/Vice Chair 

 Activities:

  • Handles meeting invites/committee calendar.
  • Manages committee roster.
  • Takes minutes at general committee meetings, distributes them post-meeting. 
  • If unable to attend a meeting, reassigns minutes duty to other member of committee.
  • Responsible for onboarding of new members via email welcome. 
  • Fills in for the Chair in case of their absence from meetings.
  • Works with subcommittees as necessary.

Treasurer

Activities:

  • Sets budgets for activities/events in combination with the WDM Chamber President & accounting specialist. 
  • With help of committee determines key initiatives, scopes out expenses, calculates sponsorships, analyzes post event success based on a variety of factors. 
  • Works with committees as necessary.

Marketing & Communications Chair/Committee Leader

Activities:

  • Responsible for overseeing marketing sub-committee, which meets once per month, delegating following tasks:
    • Developing marketing plan, social media, and PR outreach. 
    • Collecting necessary media including head shots, bio’s, etc. that event requires.
    • Content creation that can include but not limited to posters, flyers, logos, advertising copy, photography, video etc. 
  • Works closely with WDM Chamber marketing manager to aid in posting, promoting and dispersal of subcommittees created materials. 
  • Reports about marketing sub-committees work at general committee meetings once per month.

Events Chair/Committee Leader 

Activities:

  • Responsible for overseeing event planning sub-committee, which meets once per month, delegating following tasks:
    • Communication with outside vendors and venue necessary for event regarding details including staging, coordination with the city on permits, security, parking, speakers, artists, entrainment, crowd control, day of logistics, setup, teardown, volunteer coordination. 
  • Works closely with WDM Chamber event planning manager regarding event registration, additional details as necessary.
  • Reports about event planning sub-committees work at general committee meetings once per month.
