I have always had a love for the outdoors that came from spending time with my grandparents in Wisconsin. As I was navigating what options I had for college, I wanted to do something in the design field that would also allow me to be outside. I initially started at ISU in the Landscape Architecture program but moved to the Department of Horticulture after I discovered my love for the science side of design rather than the engineering side. I have held a lot of different positions in my field which has given me a unique understanding of how the horticulture industry operates which has led to my current position at RJ.
My favorite part of my job is watching my team succeed and get hungry for more. If you know me, you know that I am not a slow-paced person…so watching my team hit the ground running and succeed is an incredible feeling.
I am particularly proud of creating and implementing the RJ Internship Program. We have partnered with local school districts, community colleges and universities, and community organizations to offer paid internships to students who are interested in the horticulture industry. The program is a comprehensive internship that covers all areas of the business including account management, production, and team management.
Putting things on my calendar!
Don’t be afraid to speak your opinion (if it is constructive)! Young professionals have a unique perspective of the teams that they work on and can offer so much insight and feedback to improve the team.
I enjoy gardening, hanging out with my cats (Frank and Stuart), spending time with my friends and family, and traveling!
Visit all of the U.S. national parks.
I would eventually like to teach leadership and/or horticulture at a 4-year university. I have a passion for professional development and education that I would like to turn into a career.
Either at my community garden plot at Stone Park in Des Moines or bumming around the East Village and Valley Junction!
